A work for piano, audio and projected text

Sanford “Sandy” Meisner (b. 1905 - d. 1997) was a renowned acting pedagogue who broke with the notion that actors should use real memories to inform their work. He, instead, taught that actors should use their imagination to propel their work emphasizing that acting is finding the reality in doing. This work is inspired by Meisner’s “repetition exercise” which is meant to focus actor’s attention away from their lines and on to their scene partner. The YouTube video to the right shows examples of Meisner teaching his repetition exercise. This work will premiere in spring 2023.
